All About Gators
The Gators Swim Team is a summer-only (May & June) competitive swim team, open to all children between the ages of 5 and 18 on May 1st.
Gators membership requirements (as of 2014):Gators is a community based team including families that are club members of the following three clubs: Great Hills Country Club, Jester and Lakewood, along with families living within the zip codes 78759 and 78750. All returning families will be grandfathered in. These three groups: (1) club members (2) families in zip codes 78759 and 78750 and (3) returning families not in prior two groups will make up no less than 85% of the team. New families from anywhere in and around Austin that meet registration requirements will make up no more than 15% of the Gator swim team.
The Gator Swim Team is run by parent volunteers. To join the team, all parents are asked to select their volunteer position(s) and commit to them. If you do not volunteer you cannot be a part of Gators. Gators cannot happen without all the parents helping as it takes many volunteers to run multiple Swim Meets (Home and Away), prepare social activities, ordering gear and throwing a banquet. All the money raised by Gators pays for coaching, pools, equipment, social activities, t-shirts, trophies and everything else. This is what makes Gators great!
Gator Home Meets are held at the beautiful Great Hills Country Club 6-Lane 25 Meter Pool.
The Gators Swim Team is a member of the North Austin Aquatic League and competes against the following member teams in May and June: Balcones Woods (Blue Waves) , Westover Hills (Wild Orcas), Twin Creeks (Texas Twisters), JCC (Piranhas), Forest Creek (Fast Frogs), and Avery Ranch (Red Fish). At the end of our season (late June or early July) we have an NAAL Championship Meet (CHAMPS) on a weekend at a team pool, which includes ALL the teams. Following our Championship Meet we have a banquet filled with food and fun to end our season.
The North Austin Aquatic League was formed to create a friendly atmosphere for the benefit and personal satisfaction of our children. The league strives to offer an opportunity for children and young people to challenge themselves, to learn and think in a positive manner, to be part of a team and enjoy the experience of friendly competition and good sportsmanship.
The summer league season is a fast paced eight week period, but everyone who experiences it has a great time, makes new friends, and looks forward to the next year.
